The Brewers kicked off the 2014 season with a win by knocking off the rust and defeating the Prior Lake Jays 5-3. Matthias Duevel got the start on the mound and battled through 3 innings allowing just 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 4. Mitch Bockenstedt (1-0) came on to work 4 effective innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 3. Alex Beckman came in to shut the door to earn the save. 2 scoreless innings allowing only 1 hit.
The offense took a few innings to get going. Trent Simek drove in the 1st run of the game with a line drive to right-ceterfield gap to plate Scott Hollingsworth. In the 6th with the score tied at 1-1 Scott Hollingsworth hit a 1-1 pitch over the left centefield wall for a 2-run HR to give the Brewers a lead. A lead that was given right back, as the Jays plated 2 in the bottom half of the 6th.
In the 7th the Brewers took advantage of some shaky Jays pitching. A bases loaded walk to Adam Kalal gave the Brewers a 4-3 lead. Followed by a sac fly by Hollingsworth to plate another run and the Brewers cruised to a 5-3 victory.
Next game the locals travel to Red Wing on Friday May 9th for a 7:30pm first pitch.
